NOTES + ANNOTATIONS

As I continue to grow Fieldnotes (by BLK + BRWN.), I’ve been reflecting deeply on how to best steward both time and energy. The bookstore has always been more than just a place to buy books—it’s been a sanctuary for Black story, culture, and imagination. And that won’t change.

What might shift is how we gather. I’m exploring the possibility of transitioning the physical storefront into a fully online shop, with pop-ups and activations curated through Fieldnotes. This move would allow me to be more intentional with programming, reach more people, and sustain the work in a new way.

Nothing is final yet—but I want to be transparent as I discern what the future holds. If you’ve been meaning to stop by in person, I hope you’ll do so in the coming months. Your continued support—online or in real life—means everything.

In the meantime, I invite you to learn more about Fieldnotes, the cultural strategy studio I’ve launched to continue curating spaces, stories, and activations that honor Black life and imagination.

This week’s list is an ode to Black Boy Joy and the legacy of Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s beloved character, Theo Huxtable. In honor of his recent passing, I’m curating a collection of reads that capture the spirit, softness, and swagger of Black boyhood and coming-of-age. These books celebrate the complexities and creativity of Black boys and men—those who dream, disrupt, and dance to their own rhythm.
