Indie Poet + Author Spotlight:

Earlier last month we hosted a poet talk + book signing with Shundilyn Smith, of Poetically Alive.

We will be celebrating and featuring her poetry collection for a limited time including all four of her books — Letters to You, A Peace of Me, Things Left Unsaid, and Their White Truths My Black Truth. 

Every purchase of her book from our store contributes to our efforts to directly support the author and also helps support our programming.

We are also super excited for next month’s book releases and upcoming events — including our first ever panel discussion, moderated by yours truly, with a panel of incredible Kansas City residents that have graduated from various historically Black college and universities to speak on the impact of HBCU culture and the student experience; a super dope virtual author talk with Mercedes Osakwe to discuss the value of self-care and affirming practices; and much more! Let’s get into it.

Now a book I have been heavily anticipating?! The Historically Black Colleges and Universities' Guide to Excellence is a thoughtful and knowledgeable account of what it truly takes to successfully navigate a white world as a Black person while retaining one's core Blackness.
