This week I needed a little escapism, a healthy dosage of drama, and a good hint of action. I finished K’Wan’s Passion for the Heist.

You need a little grit from time to time, and this one was not lacking in that department. Following the lives of Parish “Pain”, a recently released heist man attempting to do everything in his power to live on the straight and narrow, and Passion, a young ward with the only goal of getting away from life chaotic life of her lone surviving relative and local gangster, Uncle Joe.

This month we will be doing a screening of Stan Lathan’s film adaptation of James Baldwin’s classic novel, Go Tell it on the Mountain. Telling the journey of a family from the rural South to "big city" Harlem seeking both salvation and understanding and of a young boy struggling to earn the approval of a self-righteous and often unloving stepfather.
