Hey Good Humans!

We’re back with another week of bookish things, and other happenings around our way. So let’s talk about this week and next at BLK + BRWN.!

Highlights of our week:

This past week AWP hit the city and we were blessed with the opportunity to connect, meet, and collaborate with so many writers and bookish folks. I’m super grateful to have been able to share space with so many dope people from all over. And, we had a truly incredible virtual author talk with Vincente Perez, author and poet of Other Stories to Tell Ourselves.

If you hadn’t heard the news yet — we were selected as a #SmallBizSuperstar by the KC Chamber. Thank you all for the continued support.

A Reflection…

If you have not heard by now — the Chiefs were honored with a parade this afternoon for their back to back Super Bowl titles… a beautiful event that turned into a very serious and dangerous series of events. I’m heartbroken… you don’t ever assume you’ll end up at-risk of being in a shooting. About 4 hours ago we were all hugging and taking selfies, on a cloud from a perfect parade in comparison to last year, better preparation, great weather, saw so many friends, all love all around; now we keep breaking the silence in my apartment turned ad hoc refuge to update there has been another victim added to the tally of victims. 22 victim so far. 22. 11 of those victims children…That was 4 hours ago… and now we don’t think about the Chiefs, we keeping wondering when the next update will come… and hoping it’ll be the last one. Deep sigh. I read we were at least the 48th mass shooting to happen this year… it’s been 45 days. And, I’m tired of the nonsense.

UPDATE: our Bookstore Rent Fundraiser has crossed the $6,000 mark. We are a little over 25% of hitting our goal of $20,000 to cover the bookstore rent for the year. I really appreciate you all for the random acts of kindness every single time. Thank you for being a part of our story!
