We’re back with another week of bookish things, and other happenings around our way. So let’s talk about this week and next at BLK + BRWN.!
Holiday Gift Guide
The Holiday Gift Guide is NOW live! We have new merch coming, and gift items perfect for the holidays — and of course our best sellers for 2023.

American Fiction (view trailer) releases on December 22nd (check me out tomorrow morning for the Great Day KC segment on Fox4 where I’ll be recommending some books and promoting the film)
A Letter from The Local Book Pusher…
It has been an honor to be able to push literature for another season! 2023 has taught me quite a bit. It’s had its “fair” share of ups and downs, and I’m so grateful that we have come through it together. Thank you for another year of support and community. BLK + BRWN. would not exist without the incredible bookish folks in my ecosystem. Thank you for the nonstop love, for believing in the work that I set out to do, and for the many friendships that have blossomed along this journey.
So many of you have come into the bookstore as a stranger, and we have come to become friends, family, and some of y’all — have become honorary therapy clients. Lol. Cheers to another year of disrupting this industry’s history of whitewashing, inaccessibility, and elitism. In 2024, we will be only getting better and better.
So some updates—
The bookstore will be closed 12/24-1/4 for my annual holiday sabbatical— I’ll be cooking up some new content soon.
Allegory, the podcast, has been on pause mostly because I’ve felt uninspired by the things I originally recorded and will be on pause until I can get a couple episodes edited and put together.
2024, I’m bringing some incredible new offerings through BLK + BRWN. Including a cool ass study group, Sankofa Society; Children’s Storytime, Roots + Wings; and starting in the spring we will have Storyteller Workshops, for inspiring writers, poets, screenwriters, journaling folks, and more.
Our Pages + Poses Yoga class will now take place every 2nd Saturday of the month.
Our monthly Movie Nights at Straycat will resume in January, and happen on the last Sunday of the month. Movie Nights are now free and donation based.
The Bookclub schedule will change to every other month. That’s right 6 books total for each group and 6 total meet ups.
We will now host a handful of Silent Bookclub Meetings throughout the year. Essentially this would be a time for folks to pull up to read whatever you’re reading in camaraderie with other folks. Because let’s be honest sometimes we feel better if we can just share space with others while we read.
We officially have new merch, and gift items in the store and online.

What is Sankofa Society? It’s basically like a very cool study group. Each month the Sankofa Society, will meet to discuss the rich tapestry of Black literature, offering a comprehensive exploration of the works of prominent authors. Limited spots left.

Bring your little bookworms to Roots + Wings, where learning is a joyous experience, and the joy of reading is contagious. It's more than just stories; it's a celebration of culture, discovery, and the pure delight of a good book.
