Hey Good Humans!

We’re back with another week of bookish things, and other happenings around our way. So let’s talk about this week and next at BLK + BRWN.!

Holiday Gift Guide

The Holiday Gift Guide is NOW live! We have new merch coming, and gift items perfect for the holidays — and of course our best sellers for 2023.

Things that are keeping me sane this week:

  • Our Christmas Playlist

  • Salvaton by Langston Hughes on Youtube

  • Sold a Story Podcast series about the literacy spiral negatively impacting students across the country (shoutout to my educators you all are doing the work, and Teacher Leezus for putting this on my radar)

Thank you for all for the support for the year. We hosted our last author talk for 2023 last week with author of Kansas City’s Montgall Ave, Margie Carr. If you missed the talk, you can still snag a copy of the book and start digging into a little known history about a neighborhood not too far from 18th and Vine, that housed several Black leaders ranging from the founder of KC’s first hospital for Black folks, the founder of the Call, educators from Lincoln, and many more folks.

Special guest and resident from the historical block, Ms. Gwen (pictured on the far right with teddy bear), shared many stories of her childhood growing up on Montgall, her journey as one of few Black students to attend KCAI, and even brought along some of her family photo albums.

Bring your little bookworms to Roots + Wings, where learning is a joyous experience, and the joy of reading is contagious. It's more than just stories; it's a celebration of culture, discovery, and the pure delight of a good book.
