Her book, Kansas City’s Montgall Ave, highlights a neighborhood home to many of our city’s most influential Black leaders from Lucille Bluford to Chester Franklin, founder of the city’s Black newspaper, The Call, to Dr. John Edward Perry, founder of Wheatley-Provident Hospital, Kansas City’s first hospital for Black people. Once a vibrant community, now situated in one of the most marginalized areas of the city.
