📚 Pusher’s Delight This Week

9/26/23
Hey Good Humans!
We’re back with another week of bookish things, and other happenings around our way. So let’s talk about this week and next at BLK + BRWN.!

My current read is, Punished for Dreaming: How School Reform Harms Black Children and How we Heal by Dr. Bettina L. Love.
In Punished for Dreaming, Dr. Bettina Love exposes the lasting harm inflicted by 40 years of racist public school policies, akin to Michelle Alexander's work, The New Jim Crow. Reagan's era initiated a War on Black Children, subjecting them to policing, closures, and funding cuts under the guise of reform. Private interests seeped in as white saviors, branding children of color, especially Black children, as low achievers. Today, cosmetic changes masquerade as justice, but Dr. Love unveils the truth in this prequel to The New Jim Crow. She shares poignant stories of 25 Black Americans impacted by economic gains and racism, offering an economist-backed roadmap for reparations and transformation in education. It's time to address the cost of miseducation.
