Notes From The Field

A Mini Dispatch on Black memory, creative practice, and possibility.

vol. 01 - a soft beginning

Hi Friend,

Cori here.

Thank you for opening this.
It means something to be read in a world full of noise.
It means even more to be read with intention.

This is the very first dispatch from Fieldnotes by BLK + BRWN.—a cultural strategy studio committed to Black storytelling, memory, and imagination. A place for thoughtful work. For creative risk. For slow-building ideas rooted in care.

This is a soft launch, not a full reveal. But I wanted to begin with a note, because that's how most things start: not with announcements, but with markings, questions, and seeds.

What is Fieldnotes [fn.]?

Fieldnotes is a practice before it’s a business. It lives at the intersections of cultural curation, public programming, creative strategy, and Black archival work.

Some of what I do here includes:

  • Curating spaces and stories for collective memory

  • Designing experiences, talks, and workshops rooted in Black life

  • Offering creative strategy and storytelling support for those who want to build culturally, not just quickly

Whether through books, panels, research, or place-based projects—I’m interested in how we hold memory, how we imagine otherwise, and how we gather people around both.

What to Expect in This Newsletter?

You’ll get this note once or twice a month (no spam, no overwhelm).
Each issue may include:

  • Reflections from the field — what I’m thinking, reading, or researching

  • Cultural strategy notes — how to build meaningful work in this climate

  • Resources or links I think are worth your time

  • Soft invitations — to collaborate, learn, or witness something unfolding

Think of this as a slow circulation.
A love letter to Black cultural work and those who do it with care.

Field Note of the Month:

"The archive is not a destination. It’s a living practice. A place to return to and a place to return from."

– Fieldnotes, July 2025

That’s it for this week.
